I have a team now!

February 17th, 2009

A lot has happened over the holiday season; animation changes, environment modelling (yay!), and a post-production schedule, but most notably, there are a number of new contributors to the production!

Veteran sound designer John Willsteed has come on board. John's award winning work has benefited a number of films, including the animated short "Love Tricycle", written and directed by Andrew Goode. I can rest easy knowing the sound design is in good hands.

The music is also in good hands. Liam Flenady and Lisa Cheney from the Queensland Conservatorium have teamed up to compose an original score for the film. I'm thrilled to have such talented musicians on board, and I can't wait to hear what they create.

In other big news, I'm pleased to announce that software company Autodesk is now on board as a major sponsor of the production. They are providing me with Maya Unlimited (my current software, but on steroids). This upgrade will speed up post-production and enable me to add some essential bells and whistles. An unlimited THANK YOU goes out to Joe Millward and Priya Katherisan from Autodesk for their support as well as Peter Davies from Storm FX for organising everything.

The list of things do to is getting shorter, but it's still quite long. Thankfully, with the support I've been receiving I should still be able to complete the film in time to stick to my festival schedule.

Until next time... keep creating!

Phew!

December 19th, 2008

The “Gus” Test Screening held on Sunday was a success! Overall, the audience enjoyed the film and responded how I was hoping they would!

There was a lot of positive feedback, and many suggestions that I will be taking on board. Thanks to all who attended, and I hope you enjoy the film when it’s finished!

Once again, I’d like to thank Crumpler, Nudie and Markwell Presents for supporting the event, as well as Worldwide Online Printing Spring Hill for their contribution.

I’d like to announce that Worldwide Online Printing Spring Hill is also going to sponsor the “Gus” production by supporting marketing over 2009/2010! So a big THANK YOU to Andrew Robertson and the team at the Spring Hill Centre.

Until next time... keep creating!

Holy Completed Animation Batman!

December 6th, 2008

Character animation is now complete!!! Well... sort of. Check out the Production section for more information.

With enough animation now completed all systems are go for the test screening, which is scheduled for December 14. I’m pleased to announce that Crumpler, Nudie and Markwell Presents are all supporting the event. Without them it wouldn’t be possible, so a huge THANK YOU to them!

To all my friends and family who aren’t invited to the test screening, don’t take it personally! The purpose of a test screening is to get UNBIASED feedback, so naturally I can’t invite you. And don’t try sneaking in either because I’ll be there watching...

There’s still a lot of work to be done before the film is completed, but a film festival plan is already being put together. “Gus” will be screened around the world over 2009 and 2010, so be sure to keep an eye out for it in your home town!

Until next time... keep creating!

It’s the end of the middle and the beginning of the end!

October 2nd, 2008

Animation on the middle of the film is now complete and the thrilling process of environment modelling continues. Check out the Production section for more information.

As I approach the end of animation I’m starting to make plans for the test screening, which will be held in December. The film shown will be a work in progress, but it will still function as a finished film. It will consist of the completed character animation with placeholder lighting, effects, sound and music.

The purpose of this test screening is for me to get unbiased feedback from a broad demographic so I can make any necessary changes before I finish the film.

Until next time... keep creating!

Welcome to the middle of the film!

August 15th, 2008

I have now reached the halfway point of character animation! I have also finished modelling the many rocks that make up the set, and begun work on over a dozen more shots. Check out the Production section for more information.

The Brisbane International Film Festival finished up on the weekend and I was impressed by some of the short films that were made right here in Brisbane. With a bit of luck, Gus may make an appearance in next year’s program!

Until next time... keep creating!

July 10th, 2008

This website will be the home for all things related to my first animated short film "Gus".

The film has been a long time in the making, as many of you know, but at last I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. There's a long road ahead, but it's an exciting one!

I will publish news bulletins whenever something noteworthy has happened to the film, its production or the website. To be the first to receive these bulletins, subscribe to the mailing list via the Contact section.

For a brief history and to get up to speed with the production, check out the Production section. Many new pages will be added over the next 6 months, including a Gallery, Trailer and Screenings Schedule.

Until next time, keep creating!
